Tranmere Rovers has announced the signing of Ben Hockenhull on a two-year contract which will come into effect on 10 June.
The defender came through the ranks at Manchester United before signing for Brentford in July 2020 and became an imposing figure at the heart of Brentford’s B team, a team renowned for developing young talent.
The 20-year-old arrives at Prenton Park until at least the summer of 2024 and will be looking to continue his development under Micky Mellon and his staff.
Upon signing the contract, Ben said, “I’m buzzing to be here. I’ve seen in the past how young players have developed here and improved so I want to do the same.
“I want to keep building and become a better player. I’m a ball playing centre half and I want to play in front of big crowds which is something I feel I can do here. I’m looking forward to it.”
Manager Micky Mellon said, “We’re really pleased to add Ben to the group. He is a player who we see real potential in, a player we feel we can develop and a player who will add to what we already have in the group.
“Ben definitely fits into the model of what we’re trying to do with our younger players in terms giving them that opportunity in a first team environment and giving them what they need to make an impact at the Club”
The centre back believes he can take what he has learnt from his time at Manchester United and Brentford and continue to improve at Prenton Park.
“I like to think that the things I have taken from my previous clubs, I can bring to my game here and add to that from what I will learn from the staff here.
“I always want to improve and become a better player. I feel like this is the right place to do that. I’m a ball playing centre half and I want to play in front of big crowds which is something I feel I can do here. I’m looking forward to it.”
