Ashville beat Cammell Laird in bank holiday weekend fixture

The eagerly anticipated bank holiday weekend fixture between Ashville and Cammell Laird 1907 attracted a bumper crowd of over 300 spectators and resulted in a win for the home team.

Opening exchanges were even despite Lairds being well below strength and having to name four goalies in their squad for the day.

But on 26 minutes Ashville took the lead through ex-Lairds player Nathan Haynes, with the only responses being long shots from Cameron McGregor and Kalif Koura and so the score remained a 1-0 advantage at the break.

Second half action saw Ashville in the ascendency, with Lairds using the counterattack to relieve pressure. But following a corner, Michael Reynolds increased the lead with a powerful back post header in the 71st minute.

The final goal was in the 89th minute from Peter Morgan when he beat a hesitant Lairds defence to complete the 3-0 success for Ashville.

Lairds final fixture of a disappointing season is away to Ellesmere Rangers next Saturday with a 3.00pm kick off.
