Arson attack on house in Waterloo

Detectives are appealing for information following an arson attack in Waterloo last night, Wednesday 18 January.

At around 9.30pm, Merseyside Fire and Rescue (MFRS) and Merseyside Police officers were called to a home on Kingswood Avenue to reports of a brick being thrown through the window and the front door being set on fire.

No injuries were caused and forensic and witness enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Paul Gillies said, “We believe that this incident was a case of mistaken identity, and the occupants are being supported by officers as we look to find who was responsible.

“For someone to endanger lives in such a reckless way is absolutely despicable, and we are keen to hear from anyone who saw unfamiliar people acting suspiciously in the area around 9.30 last night.

“So if you live locally and have home CCTV, dashcam or doorbell devices, please check these as any detail may be pivotal in our investigation, as well as any information to identify those involved.”

You can contact Merseyside Police on Twitter @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with reference 23000053805.
