Arson attack on car in Walton

Merseyside Police is appealing for information following a suspected arson attack on a car in Walton yesterday, Wednesday 9 March.

At around 8.25pm, police received a report that a white Volkswagen van was on fire on Woodhouse Close.

It was reported that a male poured fluid onto the vehicle and set it alight.

He was reported to make off from the scene in a red car in the direction of County Road

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire.

No injuries have been reported, but damage was reported to a car parked next to the van and the fence of a neighbouring property.

A joint investigation between Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police is ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.

Detective Inspector Ben Dyer said, “Although, thankfully, nobody was hurt during the incident, deliberately setting fire to a vehicle is extremely reckless and we are determined to find the person responsible and bring them to justice.

“If you were in the Walton area last night and saw anything or anyone suspicious then please come forward and let us know.

“Similarly if you were driving on Walton Road and have dashcam footage, please review it and let us know if you see anything.”

“Whether you contact us directly or anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers, rest assured, your information will be acted upon.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with any information can contact us by DM via Merseyside Police social media desk on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ with reference 22000167673.
