Arrest made following Woodchurch shooting

Detectives investigating a shooting in Wirral in which a man was injured have today, Friday 22 December, executed three warrants.

At around 8.10pm on Saturday 3 December, police were contacted following reports a man has been shot in the leg in Orrets Meadow Road.

The man was taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Three warrants were carried out earlier today in the Woodchurch and Birkenhead areas.

A 21-year-old man from the Birkenhead area has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and prohibited ammunition, being concerned in the supply of cocaine and Class B drugs and conspiracy to commit burglary.

He is currently in custody where he will be questioned by detectives.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Grounds said, “Our commitment to taking firearms and those who choose to use them off our streets remains a priority for Merseyside Police.

“We know the upset and anger that guns and the associated criminality of those who carry them causes in our communities which is why we will do everything we can to tackle the issue head-on.

“Law-abiding members of the community remain our greatest asset and I would ask them to be our eyes and ears and tell us who is using weapons and where they are being stored in their neighbourhoods.”
