Arrest following knife attack on Woodchurch Road

Police officers were yesterday evening, Thursday 10 August, in the Woodchurch Road area following reports of a disturbance.

Police were contacted at 9.15pm following reports a group of youths were fighting in the area of Woodchurch Road and that a 17-year-old male had been assaulted and suffered slash wounds to his legs and arms. He has been taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries.

A male has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and affray and is currently in custody.

An investigation is underway and house-to-house, witness and CCTV enquiries are being carried out in the local area.

Chief Inspector Colin Dyer said, “We know that there would have been a number of people in the area of Woodchurch Road this evening who may have seen the assault or have information which could assist our enquiries.

“It is vital that these people make themselves known, either to the officers at the scene, or anonymously via Crimestoppers and tell us what they know.

“This sort of behaviour is not acceptable. Carrying weapons can have deadly consequences and we need the public to tell us the people who are carrying weapons and where they are being stored so we can take immediate action.”

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting log 1180 of 10 August.
