Armed police surround Birkenhead house

Police have confirmed that emergency services are on Alexandra Road in Birkenhead following an incident in the area early in the morning of Saturday, 16 March.

Just after 2.10am police received a report that a man had entered a bar on Conway Street and threatened staff and people inside with a crowbar.

The man then left the premises in a blue Jaguar.

When officers went to the address of the man, he made threats towards them. The man remains inside the property and armed officers have closed off the area.

Members of the public are advised to stay indoors whilst the incident is ongoing.

At this stage no-one has been injured.

A nearby resident told Birkenhead News, “Armed response turned up last night, with dogs and the helicopter was out. I woke up to what sounded like four gunshots or just loud bangs/fireworks.”

Anyone with information which could help the police should call 999.

The incident is fast-moving and we will provide a further update as soon as possible.
