Appeal following burglary at Birkenhead cafe

Merseyside Police is appealing for information following reports of two burglaries at a café in Birkenhead.

At around 11.15am on Sunday 12 December officers were called to a report of a burglary at Joro Vegan Eatery in Hamilton Square.

It was reported an offender had forced entry into the café and stole a small quantity of cash.

Further enquiries established that another burglary reportedly took place on Sunday 5 December, when an offender forced entry into the café and stole a large quantity of cash from the till in the cafe.

No one was injured during the incident.

Extensive CCTV, forensic and witness enquiries are being carried out by officers in the area.

Detective Inspector Darren Taylor said, “Business burglaries are not victimless crimes – this is a small independent business who, as with many in the service sector, have worked hard through an incredibly challenging time.

“These offenders have left the café with money the staff and owner have earned through hard work, and in forcing entry have caused damage to the property.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or may have been passing in a vehicle and captured dashcam, to get in touch.”

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook with reference 21000858715.
