Merseyside Police has confirmed that ammunition has been seized after it was found hidden behind a wall on a street in Kirkby yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 22 August.
It was reported at around 3.40pm that ammunition had been left somewhere on Austin Close and armed officers attended the scene.
With the help of police dogs, ammunition was found shortly afterwards behind a wall and it was forensically recovered.
A thorough search of the area was carried out and house-to-house enquiries were conducted as part of the early stages of the investigation.
Detective Inspector John Mullen said, “Thankfully we were able to seize the ammunition before it ended up in the hands of criminals.
“Gun crime is a blight on our communities and we are determined to find those who use and possess firearms and ammunition.
“Sadly, we all know the devastating consequences of gun crime in Merseyside and how it brings misery to our communities.
“We are in the early stages of investigating this incident and would appeal for anyone with information to come forward.”
