All-day mini music festival hits Birkenhead this weekend

Tomorrow, Future Yard in Birkenhead hosts an epic bank-holiday weekend all-dayer. ‘All Roads Lead to the Future’ is a mini-festival with a message behind it.

The all-day event runs across indoor and outdoor stages, featuring a hand-picked line-up of outstanding musicians who all share She Drew The Gun’s belief that music needs to say something as well as sound great.

It’s a day celebrating some of the most conscious artists around, allowing you to dip your toe into the vast pool of genres – with folk, spoken-word, post-punk psychedelia and some good old indie rock n’ roll all mixed up to create a truly brilliant vibe throughout the whole day.

Cult folk songwriter Beans on Toast and witty, lo-fi quartet Lime Garden join She Drew The Gun in performing on the night, with both acts sharing Louisa’s desire to reflect political and societal tensions through their music.

Fiery punk upstarts ĠENN (who have already headlined a memorable show at Future Yard) and eclectic Warrington four-piece Man & The Echo also join the party.

Spoken word educator Toria Garbutt and Scouse raconteur ROY (Skint & Demoralised) bring an added dimension of lyrical wit to proceedings. There’s going to be soulful hip hop from Dayzy and hypnotic ambience from new Manchester troupe crush.

Add in the brazen pop of Mickey CallistoTorture & The Desert Spiders‘ leftfield garage intensity, Katie Mac‘s deftly woven yet hard-hitting songwriting and Macca Taylor‘s melodic, melancholic meanderings and you’ve got a show that is stacked with talent.

…and of course – the punk-infused, psych-pop, scouse-coast band who demand a reaction, She Drew the Gun

A spokesperson for Future Yard said, “If you know anything about us over here at Future Yard, you know by now that we’re more than just a music venue, so that means All Roads Lead to the Future will host more than just music (but don’t worry there is also plenty of that!)

“Off the back of seeing Future Yard launch a Sustainability Roadmap – documenting how we intend to become completely carbon neutral, Louisa from SDTG wanted to incorporate that message within the event – so at 5:30pm will be hosting a panel conversation on Sustainable Touring, with Louisa, Jay MacAllister from Beans on Toast and Future Yard’s Craig G Pennington.”

Also, from 5-7 on the day, local design and screen printing whizz kids Toucan Tango will be running a pop-up screen print stall, where guests are invited to bring their own T-shirts along to screen print designs on, in a look at ways of doing merchandise more sustainably.
