Adkins speaks of ‘tough game’ ahead of Crewe fixture

Nigel Adkins has highlighted how special it is to step out for Tranmere at Prenton Park, with Crewe Alexandra the visitors this weekend.

Rovers have won five of their last six league games on home turf, as their climb up the table has picked up momentum.

The visitors are unbeaten in their last three on the road, as their pursuit of promotion continues, setting up a blockbuster League Two contest.

REFLECTING ON THE GRIMSBY WIN:

“A good victory away from home at Grimsby last weekend just reinforces the messages that we’ve been having as a team. I’m really pleased with the group of players and staff.

“We’re evolving as we go which is very important. There are many good things that we’ve done. We’ve got a strategy and we’ve got an identity on how we want to go and play.”

ON THE ENVIRONMENT AT THE CAMPUS:

“I think it’s important that we’ve got a safe environment here, because we want people to learn. It’s a hard-working environment, but it needs to be a smart environment as well, where we’re trying to get the best out of everybody.

“You need people to feel comfortable that they can talk, engage, be fearless of making a mistake, because that’s how you learn. I’m really pleased with the interaction of the players as a group and the staff.”

ON THE SQUAD:

“We’ve got a team-based culture. Everyone working so hard for each other. I believe we’re strong at this moment in time. I thought the Club did great in making sure that we had Rob Apter. He was a big part of the group of players that we’ve got.

“Everyone wants to play, we know that, but the lads who are maybe not in the team are helping drive the performance of the lads who are in the team. We’ve got Luke Norris back on the training ground now and Jéan Belehouan, two other players that could be instrumental in helping our group keep moving forward for what we’re trying to achieve.”

ON THE CREWE GAME:

“Crewe are doing really well. They’re high in the division at this moment in time. We’re under no illusions, this is going to be a tough game. We’ve done some good work on the training ground this week in our preparation so far. We know that the opposition are always going to have a say in the game. We have to be mindful of that, but likewise, we’ve got our identity and what we want to go and do. It’s up to us to impose that on the opposition as much as possible.

“It’s special to play for Tranmere Rovers. It’s special to play at Prenton Park. We have an opportunity for all the supporters who come to try and have a smile on their face. Be with your family members, your friends, a mate from work you’re not seeing. That’s where you have that opportunity to come together and enjoy being there.”

ON TEAM NEWS:

“I’m really pleased that Jéan Belehouan has been out this morning doing some real good running around on the training ground, and so is Luke Norris as well. Jake Leake will be a bit longer, but he’s in a good place.”
