Birkenhead has been invited to bid for up to £25m of Government money which could help transform the town centre.
Bidding alongside 100 other towns hoping to share the £3.6bn pot, a successful application will mean Birkenhead will be able to use the Town Deal funds to progress projects based on a range of themes including education, health & wellbeing, culture, digital connectivity and the local economy.
Wirral Council is asking local residents, businesses and stakeholders to go online to the authority’s new engagement platform https://haveyoursay.wirral.gov.uk/ to input their views on what is special about Birkenhead and what work could be undertaken to enhance the area for everyone.
The consultation on the Birkenhead Town Deal Programme is open from 1pm on Monday, 16th November to 5pm on Friday, 4th December.
There is a simple, short survey online and an interactive map detailing the scope of the area and further information about the scheme itself.
In addition, the bid process is supported by the #MyTown campaign, where the Government has scoped the guidelines for this national £3.6billion funding scheme to ensure that local people understand the meaningful contribution they can make to the decisions on how this money should be spent.
The #MyTown website provides a platform where residents, businesses and local organisations can share their thoughts on what makes them proud of their town and also their hopes for the future.

Chair of Wirral Council’s Economy, Regeneration and Development Committee Councillor Anita Leech said: “The invitation to bid for funds could not have come at a more opportune time as it will help to underpin a wholesale regeneration programme in Birkenhead, led by Wirral Council, working alongside partners including Wirral Growth Company and Peel Land and Property.
“This will contribute to the redevelopment of the town centre, the waterfront and other areas across the borough, securing jobs, providing sustainable, quality housing and improving highways and transport to meet the needs of our local communities.
“The Town Deal Fund offers a tremendous opportunity for us to secure a significant grant, some £25m, which will enable us to initiate major change. We would like to encourage people to get involved in the process to have their say on the future of Birkenhead, by going to the HaveYourSay site.”
