Tranmere visited Colchester United this afternoon for a 3pm kick-off in their latest game of the 2021/22 League 2 season.
Ahead of the match, Mickey Mellon said of Rover’s recent form, “Yeah, it’s very [exciting], we’re pleased that we’ve worked hard to be in the shakeup with eight games to go now, so we’re pleased with that and now we want to continue to keep being competitive and be in it right until the very end.”
“I just think that we made some [mistakes] if you give away penalties and losing goals from set plays it’s always going to be difficult to win tight games if you’re giving away cheap goals like that, like the last-minute goal at Walsall.
“They’re a great group of players so they always very quickly want to get back onto what makes us a good team to get good results and we’ve managed to start to get the results now.”

Match Report: Colchester United v Tranmere Rovers
A 95th minute goal from Colchester substitute, Junior Tchamadeu, secured Colchester a 1-0 victory over promotion-chasing Tranmere.
Tchamadeu fired a right-footed shot from the edge of the area into the high centre of the goal. assisted by another sub, Alan Judge.
The first half was largely uneventful, but Colchester went close at 14 minutes when a left-footed Luke Hannant shot beat Tranmere keeper Joe Murphy, but ended just wide of the post.
At 33 minutes Elliot Nevitt had a strong attempt at goal saved by Shamal George. Just before the half time whistle, Nevitt was again denied.
Five minutes into the second half, Kane Hemmings had a stab at goal but his shot was wide to the right. Shortly after, Lewis Warrington had a shot on goal blocked.
There were numerous attempts at goal from both sides, notably from Warrington and Nevitt before Tchamadeu secured the points for Colchester in the fifth minute of added time.
Tranmere now sit at seventh in the table, just scraping into the play-off positions, one place above Mansfield by one point, but Mansfield have three games in hand.

We can talk about how together this squad is until we are blue in the face. The lack of goals is absolutely killing us. We are so easy to play against away from home. Need to win 5 or 6 of the last 7 to have an outside chance. #trfc #swa— SWA Midlands (@MidlandsTrfc) March 26, 2022

@TranmereRovers this seasons away form has been the worst I have seen it, it is the reason why the team will struggle to gain promotion this year. Going to need to rebuild the team for a better league 2 season next year, and sort out the away form.— james parker (@james_st_elmo1) March 26, 2022
