Tranmere visited Oldham Athletic last night for a 7:45pm kick-off, in their latest fixture of the 2021/22 League 2 season.
Following a 4-0 thumping by Leyton Orient in the F.A Cup on Saturday, fans will have been hoping to see a much-improved performance against an Oldham side who Tranmere beat in the Papa John’s Trophy just a few weeks ago at Prenton Park.

Thanks to a Charlie Jolley goal in the 90th minute, Tranmere’s visit to Oldham was the result the fans wanted and needed. It was a one-sided game, but it was a struggle for Tranmere to find the back of the net against the League 2 minnows.
There were some changes to the team that were hammered in the FA Cup on Saturday including a start for Charlie Jolley, and given his goal, he was a fortuitous addition to the team sheet.
In the second minute, Oldham had a crack at goal, when Benny Couto struck, forcing Ross Dohan to perform a clever near-post save. This was followed by a strong attempt at goal by Davis Keillor-Dunn, who struck a curling effort that only found the crossbar.
Lady luck and the wind was on Rover’s side in the 30th minute when Oldham found the back of Doohan’s net via a deflection from a corner. However, the goal was ruled out, due to the ball rolling out of the quadrant as the corner was taken.
At the start of the second half, with the game at a 0-0 stalemate, Oldham were the more positive side. Calum McDonald had to make a goalline clearance from an attempt by Zak Dearnley.
Keillor-Dunn had another go at goal from six yards, but somehow managed to head the ball wide, much to the relief of the visiting fans.
Fresh-off-the-bench Morris caused concern for the hosts and he forced an excellent save from Latics’ keeper with a 20-yard shot, before Jolley settled the fans’ nerves with his 90th-minute goal.
Tranmere visit Exeter City in their next League 2 fixture at 3pm on Saturday 11 December.

Probably the most one sided games I’ve been to for a longtime, but will take 3 points however they come #trfc— Ed Bryers (@Bryers12) December 8, 2021
