Two females from Oxton and Rock Ferry arrested following assault in New Brighton on Good Friday

Merseyside Police Detectives investigating an assault in New Brighton, Wirral on Good Friday have arrested a female in connection with the incident.

At around 4pm on Friday 2 April, a 16-year-old girl was victim of an assault in New Brighton Fields, Kings Parade, in which she was slapped, pulled by her hair and stamped on, causing swelling. A second person was also reportedly assaulted during the incident, receiving minor injuries. 

The incident was later reported to police and a video of the incident has been widely shared.

Extensive enquiries are ongoing and a 19-year-old female from Oxton has now been arrested on suspicion of common assault and assault by beating. She has been taken to a police station for questioning and released on conditional bail. 

Detective Inspector Matt Caton said: “This investigation continues and we’re determined to identify all of those involved.

“Anyone who witnessed or has since seen footage of this incident will have been understandably shocked to see such violence, and the victim was left extremely distressed and fortunate not to be more seriously hurt.

“However, it’s equally vital that anyone with information comes forward through the proper channels and avoid commenting on social media, especially when it comes to providing possible names of those involved. Such actions can jeopardise any future proceedings, so if you saw the incident, captured anything on any devices or have any information at all, come forward in one of the following ways and we will do the rest.”

UPDATE:

Detectives investigating an assault in New Brighton, Wirral on Good Friday have arrested a second female in connection with the incident.

An 18-year-old female from Rock Ferry was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and has been taken into custody for questioning.
