18-year-old arrested for attempted murder following Christmas Day incident

An 18-year-old male has been arrested for attempted murder and causing serious injury by driving in Birkenhead on Christmas Day

At around 12.45pm on Christmas Day, police were called to Hoylake Road, Birkenhead to reports of a collision involving an unknown vehicle and a scrambler bike rider.

The teenage male rider was removed via air ambulance and was taken to hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries to his leg. The victim remains in hospital with life-changing injuries.

The driver failed to stop at the scene and Police are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dash-camera footage which may assist the investigation. 

Hoylake Road, Ilchester Road and Stanley Road were closed while the incident was being dealt with, and drivers were advised to find alternative routes.

The arrested man has been released on bail for further enquiries.
