16-year-old arrested following machete fight on Borough Road in Birkenhead

A 16-year-old male has been arrested following a disturbance in Birkenhead on Tuesday, 23 January.

At around 1.40pm, police received a report that two males were seen fighting with machetes on Borough Road.

No injuries were reported. Officers attended and searched the area.

A 16-year-old male from Oxton has been arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in police custody to be questioned.

Chief Inspector Phil Thompson added, “We are absolutely committed to targeting those who bring misery to our communities and getting knives and offensive weapons off our streets.

“The Serious Violence Reduction Orders (SVROs) was introduced last April to tackle serious violence and knife crime and violent offending. The order gives police officers the power to stop and search a person to look for knives or offensive weapons.

“Knives and other offensive weapons have no place on our streets. I would urge anyone with information to get in touch so we can act on community intelligence or call Crimestoppers anonymously.”
